This used to be known as the DS office (as in District Superintendent) in 1960 and housed (presumably still does) all the railway head office staff for the region. Engineering blueprints were laid out in the sun to photo-etch the diagrams of railway points, signalling connections etc. Presumably these days they use computer printers!
