In November 1958, the 72nd. Pioneer (engineer) Brigade of the Reserve of the Supreme High Command, armed with R-5M Missiles, was moved from the village Medved (Медведь), 50 Km southwest of Novgorod, to Fürstenberg and Vogelsang in DDR. In August 1959, the 72nd. Brigade was moved to Kaliningrad and then reorganized into four R-5M Missile Regiments. The first Missile Regiment was deployed at Pereval (Simferopol) from May 1959, the second Missile Regiment was deployed at Gvardeysk from October 1959, the third by Slavuta (Ukraine) and the fourth by Mansowka (Ussurijsk).
