  tilkeshwar is one of the oldest,historical, archeological and religioud sites in darbhanga district; situated a few km south of Kusheswarsthan temple(another historical site), by the western bank of Tiljuga river of the olden period, now occupied by the Kosi, it was connected with Ganga at Khagaria through several Khals or channel and Tiljuga in upstream leading to the Himalayas and the Kosi in the Morang district of Nepal and Morang led to Tibet.This was the navigational, commarcial importance of Tilkeshwar
