The Smiths Falls Public Library was constructed in 1903 of yellow brick and limestone and is one of the last remaining Carnegie Library Buildings in the region. The library has the distinction of being the first library that Mr. Carnegie ever visited in Canada. In 1906 the Smiths Falls Library Board minutes record that Mr. Carnegie went through the new building from top to bottom, was delighted with it, and declared it a first prize library.
