Kasmenai or Casmene. Site of the ancient Greek city of Kasmenai. Positioned strategically on top of Monte Casale at 900m it had control and views over the two valleys of the Irminio river and Anapo river. It was founded by the Siracusan in 644.BC to control the inland and the road from Siracusa to Selinunte. The city was surrounded by a walls for a lenght of over 3km and watch towers. Kasmenai had 38 parallel roads running fron north to south.
