Introduced in 1975 for VIP movement. First Jet aircraft in ZAF for civil use. First Pilot's to be trained for these were Sqn Ldr V.K. Saxena & Flt Officer Shikapasha. Both were traind by the Yugolsav Airforce from June - August 1975.

  • The Yak 40's were to replace the HS748 that was used for VIP movement. I had the oportunity to be in Belgrade with my father when he was being trained in Yugoslavia for this aircraft. That was in 1975. I remember Flt Officer Shikapasha very well. He had a dog called Snoopy in ZAF. Wonderfull days.....only memories now. The country of Yugoslavia does'nt even exist now! How times have changed!
  • Correction to my earlier recollection...Snoopy the dog belonged to Flt Officer Simpindu and not Flt Officer Shikapasha! A little mix up .....it's been a long time!!
