production, car assembly factory
Site of the now abandoned Tata Motors factory. The factory was 85% complete and has been abandoned following pro-farmer political protests by Trinamool Congress Party led by Miss Mamata Bannerjee, now CM, West Bengal and noted human rights activists Anuradha Talwar,Medha Patkar, novelist Arundhuti Ray, filmmaker Aparna Sen and theatre personality Shaonli Mitra and many others. The opponents of this project were against wrongful acquisition of 3/4 crops fertile farm lands by the Left Front Government which rightly lost the 2011 Loksabha elections miserably owing to their exploitation of the Singur farmers etc. etc. Mamata's stand was thus vindicated by the electorate mass. The Tatas were thus forced to abandon the project and move to one of the most industrially advanced state of Gujarat.
