Duluth Central High 1892-2011

Opened in 1893 & was designed by architects Palmer and Hall. She's noted for her grand clock tower, which can be seen for miles.

History:
1892 - Central's corner stone put in place (Jun. 11)
1892 - Central dedicated (Oct. 18)
1899 - Cannon mounted at Central (Jul 01)
1914 - Greenhouse added.
1923 - Classrooms replaced the central stairwell.
1925 - A cafeteria was added.
1926 - A north wing was added with greater gymnasium facilities.
1938 - Garages replace greenhouse
1939 - The wood floors were replaced by concrete.
1942 - The school cannon is scrapped for war use.
1963 - Cafeteria ceiling collapsed -nobody harmed
1967 - Gymnasium roof blows off in blizzard.
1970 - Duluth School Board decides to build a new school to replace Central due to safty issues.
1971 - New Central High School opens on top of the hill. Old Central now houses the School Board.
1992 - The school almost closes.
2011 - Central High School Closes it's doors for the last time.
