Opened in 1988 on the former site of Beardmore's Steel Works. The original anchor tenant was a Gateway supermarket, but changed to Asda in 1990.

Has had a major interor makeover in 2006-2007 which has made the whole place look rather anonymous and clinical inside - before it was typically late 1980s in feel (with tacky features like fake palm trees, lots of chrome everywhere, fountains etc). Those damn architects don't know when to leave alone. Go to the upper level to get a feel of what it originally looked like.
