Maniyari River
River Maniyari originates from Sihawal of Achanakmar and flows through Lormi and Mungeli districts for about 105km and meets river Seonath of Mahanadi. At Talagaon there are ruins of two archaeologically important temples known as Devrani and Jethani temples. Besides, fragmented sculptures lie scattered all around. Since the river passes through dense forest and hills before its confluence, it appears as a garland; which is the meaning of its name- Maniyari, a garland of pearls.
Some of the important tributaries of Maniyari include Agar, Rahand, Kotri, Tesua, Ghangha and Chhoti Narmada. In recent years archaeological department has carried out river valley surveys of river Seonath, Mahanadi, Haup, Jonk and Kharun. These sites have yielded handsome amount of ceramic assemblage, antiquities, coins and inscriptions.
