Municipality of Pozorrubio, Province of Pangasinan
Land Area: 89.70 km²
ZIP Code: 2435
Pozorrubio is a landlocked municipality in the province of Pangasinan in the Philippines. As of the 2010 Census, it had a population of 66,111 people.
The name "Pozorrubio" is taken from the Spanish words; "pozo" which means "heart", and "rubio" which means "red". Often the town's name is mistakenly written as "Pozzorubio" but the correct spelling is "Pozorrubio".
Pozorrubio was formerly a sitio and later a barrio of San Jacinto. It was known as "Claris". On June 19, 1968, the landowners of the Barrio Claris petitioned the Governor General of the Philippines, thru the "Alcalde Mayor" of Pangasinan to convert Barrio Claris into an independent town in order to minimize or stop robberies by the Igorots living in the nearby mountains and their Christian allies, to stop the smuggling of tobacco, to improve agriculture so as to increase tribute, and to enable the inhabitants to fulfill their religious duties. On November 3, 1869, Governor General de la Torre approved the conversion of Barrio Claris into an independent town, and named it "Pozorrubio" based on the report of the town's surveyors regarding the water coming from a well which was ruby-like that they called in Spanish "pozo rubbio".
