Fire Island Lighthouse & Visitor Center

The Lighthouse is located with in Fire Island National Seashore and just to the east of Robert Moses Sate Park. The curent lighthouse is a 167ft Stone tower that began operation in 1858 to replace the 89ft tower originally built in 1827.

  • Proposed to my wife right up at the top. It's special to us in so many ways. They hold various events at this location, such as the barefoot black tie event... but my proposal tops the list for me. Neat trivia: The height of the original lighthouse is the same of the flagpole outside the existing lighthouse. A keeper used to live here around the year. The "post office" scene of Men in Black II was actually filmed in this lighthouse. Watch the movie, and you can recognize parts of it... look for the exterior of the base of it when the MIB leave the post office, too!
