The Carriedo Fountain honors the memory of Francisco Carriedo, "Manila's Greatest Benefactor", by virtue of his gift of water. In his will executed on July 27, 1743, Carriedo bequeathed an amount of 10,000 pesos to establish a waterworks system for Manila.

This fountain is actually an exact duplicate of the original Carriedo fountain which is now located in the main office of MWSS.
