square, park
Argyle Square is located off Lygon Street in Carlton. Part of the site is a tree-lined park and part is the site of the former Carlton Bowling Club. In 1995, the Carlton Bowling Club closed and the land became vacant. The City of Melbourne then made plans for its redevelopment, which commenced in 2005. On 29 January 2006, Lord Mayor John So opened the refurbished Argyle Square.
Argyle Square is supposed to have an "Italian" theme, and features a bronze solar clock surrounded by traditional handcrafted paving made from Porphyry stone from the trento region in Italy. It also has a number of steel columns that are illuminated at night.
