The Alameda created in 1592, by the Virrey Luis de Velasco, intended as a gathering place for the people of the Capital of the Viceroyalty of la Nueva España. It was rebuilt in 1775 by the Virrey Francisco de la Croix, and took its present form in 1865 under the direction of Archduke Maximiliano de Habsburgo. It is believed to be the oldest public park in America.
