  • real time:stationed there from about 68 to 70/ I did rotate out in 11/70 but hung around w Jim Burger and a Brit drummer ?name; sorry drum> I loved the place, sorry to say: I've not played lots of hits but the feelings there as I play some jazz about now
  • Stationed here from Aug 80 - Oct 82 with the 517th En Det (Terrain) located on the top floor of the 649th HQ building. For those of us in the barracks, we had are rooms in the barracks of the same barracks as the Engineer Bridgers. Looks like the movie theater is long gone...but the bowling alley may have survived.
  • Wow totally unaware of the deactivation of post..I was assigned to the 541st Engr Co FB MAB under the command of Lt Colonel M Sprague of 549...CO was Cpt.J Buzzard with 1st Sgt J Gardner back in summer of 82-83. 541 was regarded as a hard working and hard playing company. I will never forget my duty there, I PCS to Ft Polk from where I eventually ETS from. All the good times and people I will never forget. Pfc A Westley
  • After spending a year at Fort Dix NJ, I was stationed at Tompkins Barracks from June of 1963 to June of 1965. 24th Engineering Platoon Map Depot (7th Army) attached to 524th engineering Company (Topo) USAEUR and the 11th engineering group.My platoon CO was Lt. Victor S. Miller. Walt Kraeft
  • Stationed there 5-56 to 11-58, 964th Engr.co. (FM). Back then topo and bridge companies We ere field maintenance, for all you young guys we wore Ike Jackets and OD uniforms. Had to buy my greens in October 58 to get shipped home. Our company hung out in Heidelberg, at the Zum Wakelberg (sp?), ceiling would rock up and down and barrels on the walls spin. Niece to see after too many beers.

  • rjs spec 4 (guest) There from oct 68 to jan 71 then moved to Mannheim to 66th for 3 months prior to discharge Not a bad place,kind of liked it.Saw the german grand prix at Hockenheim in '70 Mario Andretti was just a young whippersnapper driver.
