Shaghat (Armenian: Շաղատ, also Romanized as Shagat) is a village and rural community (municipality) in the Syunik Province of Armenia. The National Statistical Service of the Republic of Armenia (ARMSTAT) reported its population was 1,219 in 2010, up from 1,049 at the 2001 census.Shaghat was the original realm of the Armenian Princely House of Syuni. The town was originally located along the shores of the Tzghuk lake, which dried out in late medieval era.
