The interchange between Interstate 495 (Long Island Expressway) & Sagtikos State Parkway. Originally it was a full cloverleaf interchange, had no flyover ramps, and had no collective-distributor roads connecting it to Exits 52(Commack Road) & 54(Wicks Road). It also replaced a northbound off-ramp from Sagtikos Parkway to Vanderbilt Motor Parkway(Suffolk CR 67), which was realigned in that area during the 1970's, and forced the closing of an off-ramp to Crooked Hill Road (Suffolk CR 13). In 1994 a Volvo station wagon pulled out in front of a gas tanker truck, causing a huge flaming accident that killed the station wagon driver and his dog, and warped the steel bridges holding up the Sagtikos Parkway.
