Castle Weimerech

Date of construction
1899

The house was built in 1899 for the businessman Virgil Burg. It has been renovated and rebuilt several times.

Last, an elderly couple lived there, both of whom died in November 2004 . Since then the house has been empty and dilapidated. The municipality of Jonglünster bought it for 135,000 euros from an heir of the couple in 2006, but did nothing about it for years. In 2017, it was leased to the nature and forest administration for 30 years . They wanted to make a kind of " bat hotel " out of it. Since the building substance continued to deteriorate in the following 5 years, and nothing further happened on the building, these plans became too expensive for the nature management. That is why a bat tower should be erected in the immediate vicinity. The building remains left to decay. (As of: August 2024)

  • After further investigation I found the tragic story of last owner: Mr. Hermann Anton Alphons Burg In November 2004, an elderly couple (Hermann, 86, and his wife, 74) was driving home. It is also important to note that his wife had difficulty walking. Because of roadwork, they took a different route and accidentally turned onto a dead-end dirt road. The car got stuck in the mud, and Hermann went on foot to get tools to place under the tires (the estate was about a kilometer from where they were found). His wife stayed in the car, and when he returned, he lost consciousness from exhaustion. The next morning, they were found dead—likely from freezing. The police determined that their deaths were due to natural causes and not suicide.
