The maiden flight of the Fouga CM 170 Magister was on July 23rd 1952. The type is one of the the first jet trainers in the world. The Finnish Air Force ordered eight Fougas on November 23rd 1958. The first three Fougas arrived to Finland as soon as December 19th 1938 and all eight aircraft were delivered on April 15th 1959. Ten extra Fougas were decided to order in August 1959 and they were delivered in 1960. In parallel with the procurement of Fougas, the licence production was under preparation at Valmet. The first 22 aicraft were ordered on October 14th 1958. The first five of them were assembled by using finished parts. After that, the domestic content was increased step by step. The last Fouga built at Valmet delivered on June 16th 1967. In all the Finnish Air Force had 80 Fougas. The last flight of Fouga in the Finnish Air Force was flown by the FM-45 on December 19th 1988. The most flown Fouga was FM-42: 5 008 hours.
