seaport, container / transport / storage terminal
Along with Howland Hook Terminal, Red Hook Terminal provides the only containerized cargo port facilities in New York Harbor. Breakbulk Facilities along the Brooklyn Piers to the north are slowly falling into disuse as the surrounding area is modernized and redeveloped. Pier 12, the southernmost shed in the Terminal, is currently being developed into a world-class Cruise Ship destination, and is the current docking point for the Queen Mary II.
