tower, building, office building
Multi-use complex designed by the American firm of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill in the 1970's, it contains a shopping mall, the elegant Carlton Hotel and the tallest office building in Africa, a 50 story office tower (223 metres/731 feet). When the fortunes of downtown Johannesburg declined severely in the 1990's, The Carlton Hotel closed and has remained vacant since then.
