AN old, mostly vacant retail property in Hermit Park is set for new life with a major refurbishment under new owners and fresh tenants.

The retail complex at 208-210 Charters Towers Rd had been ­anchored by an Amcal pharmacy that closed some time ago.

Townsville-owned business First Things First Wellness Centre is set to start trading at the property this week, while it is understood much of the ­remaining space will be taken up by a real estate firm.

Refurbishment of the centre is well under way.

E-property Consultants NQ agent Steve Whaling confirmed yesterday the property was under contract for sale to new owners with settlement soon.

It is believed the price paid for the 2000sq m site was $1.5 million.

First Things First Wellness Centre is the latest to follow a trend to take up space in renovated properties that have been previously vacant.

The business, established in 2000, has been trading at the Rising Sun shopping centre, which is also seeing a change tenancy mix, prompting the wellness centre’s move.

First Things First Wellness Centre director Megan Colwell said the move had meant being able to provide a fresh new look with good parking, good exposure to Charters Towers Rd and closer to the CBD.

Ms Colwell said their ­improved facilities boasted six massage rooms, including a double massage room for couples, mothers and daughters or friends, an Ultralite weight loss consultation room, an endermologie room, two detox rooms and a tanning room.

“Overall, the new wellness centre has been purpose-built to ensure each of the treatment rooms provide not only privacy but also a tranquil and peaceful ambience,” she said.

“Being able to design the new centre from a blank canvas has meant that the layout is completely different, more efficient and inviting.

“We have been able to ­enhance the entire look which gave us the opportunity to also freshen up the colour scheme.

“It truly is a new beginning for First Things First.”

First Things First offers a range of wellness-related services including massage, weight loss and detox.

The business is also the only centre in Townsville to offer endermologie, a non-invasive skin stimulation technique that reactivates cell metabolism by reducing fluid retention, smoothing cellulite and firming the skin.
