Nashik Road Central Prison was built in 1927, well before the independence and many freedom
fighters like Rev. Sane Guruji had been detained in this prison in year 1933. In this period the remarkale poem
“Khara to Ekachi Dharm” and well admired nover “Shamchi Aai” was constituted . As well Rev. Senapati Bapat the noble freedom fighter was also detained in this prison. In memory of these noble personalities a monument is erected in those particular yards.
Capacity and the strength of prisoners : Authorized strength of male prisoners 3118, female prisoners 60 and total strength is 3178. On an average 2400 to 2500 male inmates and 60 to 75 female inmates are confined altogether.
