Memorializes the sacrifice of the Newfoundland Regiment which, on 1 July 1916, during the first day of the Battle of the Somme, suffered 90% casualties while attacking the German front line in this area. The surrounding park is one the best preserved First World War battlegrounds where one can see the trenches as they were in the war.
