Buan Movie Theme Park opened in 2005 with joint investments from Jeollabuk-do, Buan-gun and KBS Artvision. The park incorporates of a folk village and an indoor filming studio. Inside the folk village with a total floor area of 37 acres are Korea's representative royal palaces; Gyeongbok Palace and Changdeok Palace, recreated along with a tile-roofed village consisting of traditional houses of the nobility, Joseon's Confucian Academy Seowon and Joseon's Village Academy Seodang.

The folk village also contains a commoners’ village of Doyochon, Hanbangchon, Mokgong and Hanji, as well as Jeojageo-ri, a traditional street with a town market and grazing land.

The park became famous as the main filming location for popular Korean movies and dramas “The King and The Clown” (2005), “Hwang Jin-yi” (2007), “The Sword With No Name” (2009), "Sado" (2014). The KBS drama "Sunman Lee Jema," which is about the famous medical scientist Lee Jema, was the first to be shot at the park.

Hands-on traditional educational programs like folk painting, the traditional wedding ceremony, horseback-riding, traditional archery, tanning, flower-pressing, etc.
