Bhaba Dighi

India / Bangla / Ramjibanpur /

This Dighi (Large Pond), named Bhaba Dighi falls on the Shifted Bishnupur Tarakeshwar Railway Line. The owners of the Pond Bhaba Dighi requested the Railway Deparment to follow the original plan of railway line, which followed a more straight path (which would run around 70 feet north of the Bhaba Dighi), while connecting Goghat with Kamarpukur Stations to resolve the issue in the greater public interest. But because of some unknown reason, the owners of the adjascent land, residing in Golpur are diverting the Rail line towards the Dighi, by exercising their influences.
This big Dighi (Large Pond) is an important water source in the area. If the Railway Track goes through it, as later planned, half of this Dighi will have to be filled in and the area will effectively loose this important water body. On the contrary, the Railway Track itself can be reoriented just after Goghat Rail Station. It can take a straight route, passing through 70 feet north of the Dighi. For the greater interest of all, Department of Railways should reconstruct the track as was originally planned.
Around 51 shareholder families are dependent upon the Dighi for their livelihood. Because of the wrong plane of local authorities, they are suffering for none of their faults.

  • Newspaper says that on 16-Mar-17 there was again a turmoil. The local ladies protested on continuing work on the route where the Dighi will be affected. Railway is clinging on the point that ;There is technical difficulty' for reorienting the line. However, the didn't explain exactly, where is the so call technical difficulty.
  • From the satellite picture of Bhabadighi and proposed Railway track, it is seen that a small portion of the water body will be affected which should be tolerated for greater and noble interests.
  • When I talked to Guard and Driver of the Bankura-Moynapur Train that runs on this Bishnupur-Tarakeshwar line, they told that, a roundabout along the Dighi will reduce the train speed to 30 km/h. Whereas on a straight path, express trains will be able to run at the speed of 100 km/h or more.
