Stoney Littleton Long Barrow (Burial Mound)

This monument is scheduled under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Areas Act 1979
The structure dates from the Neolithic period, 4000-2500BC, and its interior stones are of blue lias probably from the Newton St Loe area (Bath). The outside of the barrow is 100 foot long, 50 foot wide and 9 foot high. It is the only known example of a barrow with three pairs of side chambers. It has a fourth chamber in the form of a continuation of the gallery or passage.
