 apartment building  Add category

5-story residential building completed in 1897. Designed by George F. Pelham. It was altered in 1921, after the extension of Seventh Avenue South cut a slice off of its rear, at which time the store was added at street level. The first floor consists of handsome, rusticated stonework with a central front door having console-like pilasters with modified Corinthian capitals supporting a cornice slab on brackets. Above, Roman brick is combined with terra cotta trim and band courses with Greek fret and wave motifs. Richly decorated terra cotta panels with escutcheons can be seen between the third and fourth floor windows.

Baseball MVP Hank Greenberg was born here in 1911. The ground floor on Seventh Avenue South is occupied by Organika Cocina Italian restaurant.
