Founded in 1980, the Hudson River Maritime Museum is devoted to the history of shipping, boating and industry on the Hudson River and its tributaries. Its exhibits include various small craft, artifacts of river steamships, ice-harvesting tools and maps, paintings and sketches from past eras. The museum also is home to an extensive research library and serves as the "homeport" for the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater.
