Terreiro de Jesus (Salvador)

Brazil / Bahia / Salvador
 square, place with historical importance

Praça XV de Novembro, better known as Terreiro de Jesus because of the Jesuit Church (currently the Basilica Cathedral), maintains urban characteristics from past centuries. Richly decorated townhouses and three churches testify to the heyday when Salvador was the colony's capital. In the center of the square, a fountain of French origin (1855), all in cast iron, represents the goddess Ceres, of agriculture.
