historical layer / disappeared object, commercial building

7-story Beaux-Arts commercial building completed in 1921. Designed by A. L. Libman & Gail T. Brown, it is clad in limestone, with the facade organized into two halves. Te 2-story base has plate-glass storefront in both bays at the ground floor, and the 2nd floor has very large plate-glass show-windows with gilded, scrolled keystone at the tops. The 4-story midsection has gilded rope moldings framing the two bays, with tripartite windows. The spandrels between the floor are decorated with simple geometric shapes, and the two bays are crowned by gilded cartouches at the top of the 6th floor, as well as three small, gilded panels at the piers. The top floor is set off by a stone cornice, and has four windows in each bay, separated by paneled stone pilasters, paired at the ends, each of which has a gilded, stylized capital. The facade is crowned by a stone roof cornice with gilded modillions. The ground floor is occupied by Mattress Firm, and the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business takes up most of the upper floors.
