apartment building, 1995_construction
6-story senior residential building completed in 1995. Managed by Urban Pathways, the Ivan Shapiro House is an assisted living facility, one of 11 such residences in Manhattan, the Bronx and Queen operated by the organization.
It is clad in light-orange brick, with darker orange-red brick trim, including at the base along the sidewalk, and as thin banding across most of the ground floor and the middle section of the upper floors. The facade is six bays wide, with an entrance near the center, in the 3rd bay from the east (the western bays are spaced closer together). The entire entrance bay is recessed, with double-windows on the upper floors and a glass-and-metal door, sidelight and side windows at the ground floor topped by three green metal bars and a small, green metal canopy. There are two windows to the east, and two to the west (there is no ground-floor window at the 2nd bay from the west), all with light-green metal grilles and vents on top, and a recessed light-green metal service door at the far west end. There are two globe light fixtures mounted on the wall around the entrance, with two more at both the west and east.
The recessed double-window bay has twice the darker colored banding, and groups of four horizontal, green metal bars between each floor. The other five bays have single-windows with metal vents at the bottoms. The two end bays have pale-green metal spandrel panels between floors, and all the windows have green metal framing.
The building contains 55 housing units, as well as support staff facilities.
