Kuzma Minin was a boyard from Nizhniy Novgorod, who in 1612, together with Dmitriy Pozharskiy, led the Second Army o Volunteers (Vtoraya Dobrovol'naya Armiya) against the Polish troops which occupied Moscow and sieged the Monastry of the Trinity and Sergey (Lavra Sergeyev-Troitsy, in Russian). Minin and Pozharskiy succeded to defeat the Polish and liberate Moscow, offering the crown of Tsar to Alexey Mikhailovich, member of the Romanov family, ending the long Smutnoe Vremya (Time of Troubles). Because of all that, is not a surprise that Minin has his own monument,.
