property, interesting place
The 1906 house was originally built for a department-store magnate Lawrence S. Donaldson, one of two brothers who founded the Donaldsons department store chain. Designed by Kees and Colburn, the same architecture firm that designed Donaldsons downtown Minneapolis office and the Minneapolis Grain Exchange building, the well-over 10,000 sq. ft. home was was a model of gilded age opulence (10 fireplaces!) on over an acre.
Donaldson died young, the house remained in his family for more then 50 years. The second owners, who bought it in 1959, lived in the house nearly two decades but made alterations that changed the interior character. They sold off some of the property, including the carriage house, and stripped many of the valuable decorative elements to sell.
The present owners, couple Ron Beining and Mark Perrin bought the house in 2000 and spent four year meticulously restoring it back to its glory days. They repurchased the carriage house (1720 Mount Curve) in 2001 and restored it too. Mark D. Perrin is President and Chief Executive Officer of ConjuChem Inc. since October 17, 2005; prior to that he was Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer at Orphan Medical Inc. Ron Beining is a Licensed Landscape Architect in Minnesota and California and President of Ron Beining Associates, LLC.
1712 Mount Curve purchased November 07 2000 for $2,825,000
1720 Mount Curve purchased September 24 2001 for $1,100,000
The restored home has been offered by the owners at $6,500,000, without any particular rush to sell.
