Named after Jesse N. Knight, a mining millionaire and important financial benefactor to BYU as well as a member of the university's board of trustees during the early 1900s, this building was the first of four buildings that would eventually enclose a second "quad" on campus. The Jesse Knight Building was completed in 1960, and an annex with more classrooms and office space was added in 1966. Seismic upgrades and other renovations were completed in 2007.
The building houses University Police, Freshman Academy, Human Resource Development, Visual Arts, the English Writing Center, the Humanities Publications Center, Office of IT Training and Communication, and classrooms.
