Norcross is one of the few Gwinnett County sites listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The downtown buildings date to the turn of the century. And current tenants include gourmet restaurants and high-end shopping. The still-active train tracks run through downtown and certainly lend to the nostalgia and charm. The original train station is the central landmark, today featuring a wonderful family restaurant. Interestingly, the train tracks mark the eastern continental divide, so half of Norcross' rain water flows to the Atlantic, while the other side goes to the Gulf of Mexico. Norcross hosts several noteworthy events each year. Look for the car show in May when the streets close and spectators can gawk over the old cars, all fitting in just fine in the historic downtown. July 3rd (NOT July 4th) features a wonderful fireworks display. The first weekend in October is the Norcross Arts Fest, featuring real artists, not "crafts". Finally, the first Saturday in December is the Norcross Tour of Homes, a nosy neighbor's chance to get inside some of the most beautiful private homes in Norcross, many historic.
