This ancient Jewish Cemetery was established in 1828. After the Nazis destroyed it in 1942 in World War II, we restored it and rededicated it in November 1992, with help from local Polish people. In May 2003 we retrieved over 130 gravestones from a house at 6 Ulica Koscielna (former local Gestapo Headquarters) and re-erected the macevas in the Cemetery, thus redeeming this sacred ground and the souls buried therein. In a mass grave in this cemetery the Nazis had buried scores of Staszow Jews murdered by them on November 7,1942, the Black Sunday of Deportation of the Staszow Jews. This mass grave was discovered in 2003 and the victims duly honored with prayers and a gravestone, 60 years after their martyrdom. May they rest in peace.
