Jaishankar Prasad (Hindi: जय शंकर प्रसाद) (January 30, 1889 – January 14, 1937), one of the most famous figures in modern Hindi literature.

Jaishankar Prasad was born on January 30, 1889, in an elite kanya kubj vaisya family in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India. His father Babu Devki Prasad, also known as Sunghani Sahu (सुंघनी साहू), was a tobacco dealer.

Kamayani (Hindi:कामायनी) (1936) is a Hindi epic poem (Mahakavya) by Jaishankar Prasad (1889- 1937). It is considered one of the greatest literary works written in modern times in Hindi literature. It also signifies the epitome of Chhayavadi school of Hindi poetry which gained popularity in late nineteenth and early twentieth century.
