Fulwood Barracks is the home to various units with the present occupiers being, 5 Medical Regiment and Headquarters 42 (NW) Brigade. The barracks is also home to the museum of the Queen's Lancashire Regiment.

Fulwood Barracks was the last and largest of a chain of barracks built in the North West in the wake of the Chartist riots of the 1830's. Completed in 1848, today it is the finest and most complete example of mid-Victorian military architecture left in the country.

42 (North West) Brigade

42 (North West) Brigade is the regional Army brigade which looks after the Army's interests in North West England and the Isle of Man.It is part of the Army's 2nd Division. Its region, covering Cumbria, Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Cheshire and the Isle of Man, has a proud tradition of supporting the Army.

More than 2,000 Regular soldiers are based here, at barracks in Preston, Weeton and Chester. It is home to 3,600 Territorial soldiers and over 7,000 cadets, as well as military training areas in Warcop, Halton, Holcombe Moor and Altcar.

5th Medical Regiment Royal Army Medical Corps.

5 Medical Regiment was formed on 1 December 1999, however the roots of the Regiment span back to World War 1 (WW1) and 5 Field Ambulance. 5 Field Ambulance was established in Aldershot on 14 August 1914 and was disbanded at the end of WW1, having taken part in many great battles including the Battles of the Somme, Arras, Cambrai and the Hindenburg Line.

The 4th Battalion the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment is the Infantry Territorial Army (TA) battalion of the North West of England. 4 LANCS is based in four company locations and four detachment locations, totalling more than 500 men and women.
