Hotel Kongo was built in 1973 as one of first motels in former Yugoslavia, designed by architect Gregor Košak. When creating the building, the idea was to imitate a hay rack (Slovene: kozolec), an architectural speciality that marks Slovenian identity and it is part of its ethnological heritage. The building is now under monumental protection. Today Hotel Kongo is a four star hotel situated on the outskirts of a beautiful forest, only a few minutes’ drive from Ljubljana’s bustling down town.
