Block K is the first ever residential place in Soshanguve. It was originally called Mabopane East.It was established in 1974 by residents who were relocated under the apartheid Group areas Act. The first resedents were relocated from Wallmansthall area on the North East of Wonderboom. Wallmansthall was later converted into a military training camp for the South African Defence force by the apartheid government. In 1977 the Bophuthatswana became an independent Bantustan under the apartheid regime. Mabopane West became known as Mabopane and Mabopane East changed its name to Soshanguve. However Soshanguve fell under the Central Government while Mabopane fell under the Bophuthatswana Bantustan.
