High tower with the mausoleum of Toghrol, the Iranian king of the Saljoughid dynasty.
The beautiful 800-year Toghrol Tower, a 12th century monument, located in Shahr-e Rey to the south of capital Tehran is the burial venue of the Saljuq monarch Toghrol Beik. The tower was built during Saljuq era and is considered as one of the most important attractions of Rey area. It is situated in the eastern flank of Ebn-e Babveih cemetery. The monument manifests the architecture of the period, which has survived despite the aggression of Mongols on Iran. Toghrol Tower is approximately 22.5 meters high and has no ceiling. It is located at a latitude of 35.36.13 and longitude of 15.26.54., in the middle of a garden. A marble tablet on the facade of Toghrol Tower attracts the attention of visitors before entering the monument. The tablet marks the date of tower's renovation on the order of Nassereddin Shah Qajar on account of his respect for Toghrol Beik. In 1301 AH, the tower, whose major sections were demolished, was repaired on the order of Nassereddin Shah. Today, this ancient monument is visited daily by lovers of Iranian culture, art and history. The tower was registered as a national monument in 1931.
