Mainzer Marktbrunnen (Market Well of Mainz) (Mainz)

Germany / Rheinland-Pfalz / Mainz
 interesting place, water well

Renaissance Well, erected 1526. In former times, when fetching water, this was a place for social contacts. In 1889 the well was moved to another place. In WW2 it was protected with a brick shelter against bomb splinters. In 1974/75 it was moved to its original place. During the reconstruction period in 2005, it was again sheltered (see Google imgage). Now, in 2009 it looks like on the photo. The assembly of the well is topped by a "Madonna with the Child".
