Ocean Cay is a man-made island, built in 1970, approximately 95 acres in size.The island is located 20 miles south of Bimini and approximately 65 miles east of Miami, Florida. Ocean Cay's strategic location allows for an efficient delivery distance of natural gas to the growing South Florida market.
AES Ocean LNG, Ltd. own and operate an advanced energy services center located on Ocean Cay in The Bahamas. The AES Ocean LNG, Ltd. project at Ocean Cay has been developed to include a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) import terminal and ancillary facilities. Ancillary facilities include an optional Liquefied Petroleum Gas removal plant, a seawater desalination plant, as well as Ocean Cay employee housing and associated facilities on South Bimini, and a undersea natural gas supply pipeline (designated as the AES Ocean Cay Pipeline) to the U.S. Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) boundary. The Ocean Cay Pipeline will interconnect at the EEZ boundary with an undersea natural gas pipeline extending to delivery points in Broward County, Florida (Ocean Express Pipeline). The Ocean Express Pipeline (www.aesoceanexpress.com) will be constructed and operated by AES Ocean Express LLC, a U.S. affiliate of AES Ocean LNG, Ltd.
The project is being proposed by the U.S. Company, The AES Corporation, one of the world's leading power companies.
The AES corporation constructed and currently operates an LNG terminal and natural gas pipeline at AES Andres in the Dominican Republic
