temple, Zen
Probably the biggest tourist draw in Fukui. The temple is huge, and smells of fresh Japanese Cedar. There is a lot where you can park for free at the very bottom of the hill right at the start of the tourist town that lies below the temple. After walking uphill past all the shops you can pay to enter the temple to your left or continue up the road to your right to see a beautiful (though artificially channeled) waterfall, some monuments, and a moss-covered graveyard across the creek. If you are up for a real hike, climb the enormous dam and you will see a huge reservoir that would put the temple deep underwater if it were ever to falter.
