 school, arts

High School for the Visual and Performing Arts (formerly known as Central Los Angeles Area New High School #9) is a $232 million high school in the Los Angeles Unified School District. It opened on September 9, 2009.

This historic site was once Fort Moore, an American fort built after US forces took the town in the US-Mexican War. From that time until the early 20th century it was the site for public executions by hanging. From 1853 to 1947 the site was also a cemetery. It later was the home of the second location of Los Angeles High School, then later was the headquarters of the Los Angeles Unified School District.
