MEDVENKA, workers settlement - administrative settlement of the Medvenka district, Kursk oblast (from 9.12.1970). Population: 4,498 (2021 Census). Founded in the second half of the 1730s. Located on the Moscow-Kursk-Kharkov motorway, 36km from Kursk. Consists of 4,461 inhabitants as of 2008. Food production enterprises. Active museums: E.M Cheptsov House, a Medvenka-born artist, founded on 10 November 1964; and a district local studies museum, founded 12 May 1978. The house-museum collection includes Cheptsov's own paintings, items of applied decorative art, furniture, photographs and documents belonging to the artist. The collection of the regional studies museum includes materials about the life and activities of archaeologist Prof D.Ya. Samokvasov, and also photographs of Heroes of the Soviet Union and others Medvenka natives who served at the front.
