Former palace of Archduchess Margaret of Austria (1480-1530), sometime governor of the Habsburg Netherlands. The northern part of the building along Keizerstraat is one of the oldest examples of Renaissance architecture in the Low Countries. From 1616 to 1795 the former palace was the headquarters of the Great Council, a sort of supreme court. Today it is the city courthouse.
