[edit] Background

[edit] Aims and objectives
The aim of this project is to:
- gently coordinate people's efforts
- give them a place to record achievements/see what remains to do
- provide consistent, agreed standards to work to.
The long term objective is to map all rivers in the UK. In reality people will continue to map rivers that interest them. The best that we can hope for is that they see fit to record their progress on the project page and follow the agreed standards.
[edit] Standards
Wikimapia provides a single type of waterway marking, rivers, so we will use these.
We map at the highest available zoom level and follow the centre line of the waterway.
We name all rivers as soon as they have been mapped with the names used at Wikipedia.
While mapping a river we also map the infrastructure encountered along its route including but not limited to: bridges, locks, weirs.
[edit] Progress
| Name (Wikipedia)) | Source | Mouth or confluence | Length | Status/Comments |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| River Dart | Dartmouth | Mapped to here excluding infrastructure. | ||
| River Derwent, Derbyshire | Derwent Mouth | 50 miles (80 km) | Mapped to Howden Reservoir. A map is required to take it to its source. Infrastructure mapped from mouth to N of Derby. |
